Unit 1
Unit 1 started off with learning some basic website ideas. Our first activity was when we looked for the worst websites we could find. We then used these websites to define what a “bad website” would look like, defining our grading rubric. We worked on a practice website in Google Slides to learn how websites were organized, and we each provided feedback to each of the websites we made, according to our rubric. The next section of the unit focused on color theory. Color theory is how colors make us feel and how they relate to one another. For example, the color red can mean power or hot, and the color blue could mean cold or calm. The last part of the unit was Accessibility, where we learned about accessibility and its relation to websites. Some websites have good accessibility, while others have no accessibility options, which makes it hard for some people to use the website. The contents of Unit 1 are important, and they build a solid base for the next things we’ll learn.
Unit 2
In Unit 2. We learned about HTML. At the start of the unit, we learned about creating HTML files and boilerplate. We also learned headers, as well as lists, like ordered lists, unordered lists, and list elements. We also learned about div elements, which divide a page. Then we learned about making working links, as nav and main elements, which classify sections of a page. After that, we learned how to make data tables. We briefly talked about comments before tackling video elements that embed media onto a web page. Unit 2 was filled with useful knowledge that will help us structure our next web page!
Unit 3
At the start of Unit 3, we were introduced to CSS. CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets., and we can use it to make our HTML look better. The syntax of CSS is different from HTML. It uses selectors, properties, and values. The selector selects the HTML element, the property is the thing that will be changed about it, and the value is the amount/color/size/etc. After that, we learned about color. We made our own color palettes and learned about web safe colors. We then went into fonts, and learned about font families, font terms, and how to put a custom font on our site. After that, we talked about the box model, and how most websites use it to divide up information. We also learned about class and id, a way to select certain elements by assigning them a name or group. Finally, we learned about website sizing and device sizing; Fixed Width and Fluid Width.
Unit 4
Unit 4 was our graphics unit. We started off with creating a photo album. I shrunk 6 images that and then when you clicked on the smaller images it linked to the bigger ones. We also created a web image. I got a picture taken of me and then I scanned it into the computer. I also took a few pictures to make a gif, we used photoshop for that. One of the final things we did was to create web icons, which we put at the bottom of our pages. We downloaded free icons from a website and colored them. The last thing we did was create a web banner out of multiple images.
